Window Well Renovation

Before:

I should have taken a picture inside the window well. It was full of dirt and mulch.

Part 1:

First, I dug a big hole until I found the remnants of the old concrete window well, which was deteriorated and buried underground.

Part 2:

Then, I bought a window well wall and drilled it into the decorative concrete foundation blocks of the house. Because the blocks are rounded, which meant that the steel wall wouldn't be flush against the blocks, I used the foam pads and crack filler to fill the cracks and create a seal.

Part 3:

Third, I refilled the hole outside the window well with dirt, laid and nailed landscaping fabric and edging, and covered the area with river rocks.

Part 4:

Lastly, I attached a second downspout with a hinge to the elbow of the first downspout. We get a little bit of water leaking into the basement during heavy rains, so I definitely didn't want the downspout draining into the new area that I had just constructed. Extending the downspout meant that it would empty water further away from the house and the hinge enables me to easily lift and lower the lower piece when mowing the lawn.
