Weekend in NYC

Time Square

Saint Patrick's Cathedral

Saint Patrick's Cathedral is a Catholic church and seat of the Archbishop of New York. It is also the largest Gothic Revival Catholic Cathedral in North America.

Rockefeller Center

Leopoldstadt

We saw this play, which is set in Vienna and follows the lives of a prosperous Jewish family over decades--before, during, and after World War II. The play won Best Play at the 2023 Tony Awards.

Queen of Sheba (Ethiopian Restaurant)

Below is a picture of the Taste of Sheba sampler. Here are the items:

--Center = Doro wot (chicken leg slow-cooked in stew of onions, egg, Berbere, and Kibe)

--2:00 = Gomen wot (collared greens)

--3:00 = Bozena shiro (marinated beef in chikpea gravy)

--5:30 = Shiro wot (split peas milled with blend of berbere, herbs, and onions and slow-cooked)

--7:00 = Tibs wot (stewed beef)

--9:30 = Ater kick alecha (split peas cooked in onion, garlic, and olive oil with various herbs and spices)

--Base = Injera (pancake-like bread)

"Wot," which you can see above in many of the food names, means "stew." It seems that many Ethiopian foods are stewed, or slow-cooked.

American Merchant Mariners' Memorial

This memorial is meant to honor all the merchant mariners who have died at sea during war and in pursuit of peaceful commerce throughout the history of the United States. The sculpture was inspired by a photograph of victims of a submarine attack on an American merchant shop during World War II.

Museum of the American Indian

I loved this museum because of my interest in Native American affairs. Here is a journal entry I posted summarizing some of what I learned in an exhibit here called "Developing Stories: Native Photographers in the Field:" https://www.willdodds.com/jour...
