Sacred Valley Day Loop #5: Pisac

Pisac was the final stop on our loop through the Sacred Valley. The red line on the map to the right shows the path we took to get there in our bus from Ollantaytambo.

Pisac is a historic town with Incan ruins and terraces (andenes) like we saw at Ollantaytambo. Also like Ollantaytambo, historians strongly suspect that the town existed before the Inca Empire.

When the Inca Empire conquered the area in the 1400’s, the Inca emperor Pachacuti built a fortress on top of the hill that overlooks the town. My pictures show the ruins of this structure as well.

Another attraction within Pisac is the market, where you can buy a variety of unique products made by local artisans.
